sarah bettens & brother gert bettensIn her earlier years, Sarah's older brother, Gert, was playing in a band called The Basement Plugs. When Sarah eventually joined them as a singer, her voice enhanced and completed their sound. It was only a matter of time before this "basement band" became a much larger adventure.

The Basement Plug's version of Melissa Etheridge's song, "Like the Way I Do," was sarah bettens (sara beth) I'm So Lonesome CDsubmitted to a fledgling record company called Double T. They liked what they heard and offered Sarah a solo contract. With Gert's support, she accepted the deal and assumed the alias of Sarah Beth. Sarah's first single (a Hank Williams cover tune, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry") was recorded for the Belgian film "Vrouwen Willen Trouwen," and snagged a spot in Belgium's Top 5. Later, the song sarah bettens (sara beth) & Frankie Miller CD"Why Don't You Try Me Tonight," sang with Frankie Miller, also became a hit. All of this success seemed to come a bit too fast for Sarah and she wanted to create music with Gert once again.

At first Double T was not sold on the idea, but were quickly persuaded when Sarah and Gert performed a tune for them...

The Choice was born and their debut record, "The Great Subconscious Club," came to fruition. This debut was a great success and granted them an international contract with Epic/Sony Records. They then toured with the Indigo Girls, performing before stadium-sized crowds. However with their success also came conflict -- other American bands claimed the rights to the name The Choice. Eventually Sarah and Gert decided to change their name to K's Choice. (The "K" represents Joseph K, a character in Franz Kafka's book, "The Trial.")

Their follow-up recording, "Paradise in Me," was released in 1995 (a little later in the U.S.) and showed a more edgy, heavier side of the band. "Not an Addict" became a hit single, heard on radio stations throughout the U.S. and Europe. Over time, the band's success grew and they toured throughout Europe to many, many sold out shows -- winning over U.S. audiences as well during their Summer tour in 1996.

In 1998, their third album, "Cocoon Crash," was born and from it came several hits. K's Choice was growing musically and once again proving their talents.

After a little time off, the band eventually Almost Happy - K's Choicerecorded and released their latest studio album, "Almost Happy," which contains some of the group's finest songs yet. Quiet, stripped-down, acoustic melodies and rocking, full-band songs come together wonderfully, practically guaranteeing a permanent home in any music-lovers stereo system.

However at this time, K's Choice is on hold. In a recent interview with Gert and Sarah, they have both decided to take a break from K's Choice and pursue their own musical careers independently. While this doesn't spell the permanent end of K's Choice, it does mean that their fans will get to hear sides of these artists that they may have never heard before, which is certainly something to celebrate. Losing You - K's ChoiceSpeaking of celebration, there are in fact still a few gems to come from K's before the year's end: a couple of 10th anniversary recordings (a new single, "Losing You" and CD compilation, "10") and a 2-DVD set also called "10" which features video footage chronicling the band's rise to fame.
